Body Composition:


Your body composition is accurately determined using state of the art GE Lunar Prodigy. Other methods such as measuring fat folds, bio-impedance scales or hand held devices are very inaccurate. Tracking your progress is easy. Total and regional body fat, as well as muscle distribution are accurately determined. Increased body fat, especially abdominal fat, is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease and even many cancers. Sarcopenia, or low muscle mass, is associated with an increased risk of physical disability including falls. Many people don’t look particularly overweight and may even have a normal BMI, but actually have an increased body fat and low muscle mass, often accompanied by osteopenia or osteoporosis. These “skinny fat” people are at particularly high risk for fractures.

Bone Density:


Osteopenia (low bone density) and osteoporosis (very low bone density) increase the risk of fractures. Low bone density is not just a woman’s problem. Many men have low bone density as well. While hip fractures are not as common in men, the mortality after a hip fracture is roughly 20% compared to 7.5% in women.

Nutrition and Exercise Counseling:


Most people are convinced they know how to eat right and they “just need to do it.” Patients often feel that as long as they aren’t eating “junk,” there is not much to change. This is usually far from reality. Your personal exercise and nutrition counselor will review your current eating habits, identify opportunities for improvement and develop a workable diet plan that can be incorporated into your busy lifestyle. The results of the fitness assessment are used to design an exercise program that will give you the best results while making efficient use of your valuable time.
